Built in 1984, L’Hôpital de la Communauté Haïtienne  (Haitian Community Hospital) is managed by La Fondation Haïtienne de la Santé et de l’Education (Haitian Health and Education Foundation), a non-government and non-profit foundation.

The Haitian Community Hospital (HCH) is a non-profit organization established to provide quality care to all strata of the population.  Its mission is to provide health care, health education, and high quality practical training for medical professionals.

HCH is the largest privately-owned general hospital in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince and the only one in the county of Pétion-Ville.  It has introduced new practice standards for privately-owned hospitals in the Port-au-Prince area, for instance, the  inclusion of in-house staff doctors.  At present, HCH is the only hospital in the area with an Intensive Care Unit.  The hospital has 75 beds, mainly serving low and medium income populations, three operating rooms, and two delivery rooms.

One of the hospital’s main objectives is preventative health care. HCH plays a vital role in serving the population of Pétion-Ville and surrounding areas, ensuring public health.  The hospital has a long history of organizing immunization campaigns and providing health education.  Health fairs and informational meetings are held to discuss topics, such as AIDS and Tuberculosis.

Through its public health programs, outpatient clinics, and 75-bed inpatient hospital, HCH has provided quality care to upwards of 80,000 people annually, and is committed to and accessible to the most disadvantaged sections of the area.

Given its geographic position and services, Haitian Community Hospital aims to serve a population of 250,000 people, mainly from the communes of Pétion-Ville (283,052 inhabitants) and Delmas (679,650 inhabitants).

HCH has an excellent reputation that attracts residents from all common boroughs of Port-au-Prince. It is a key institution in the health system of Department of the West, which has some thirty public and private hospitals covering a population of over 3 million inhabitants.
